Dining Information

Food is available every day from 12pm to 5pm and with a range of sandwiches, jacket potatoes, pizzas, burgers, salads and homecooked favourites there is something for everyone. For a tipple or two, you can enjoy an extensive range of local craft beers,  distilled spirits along with a selection of wines.

There is no booking required to dine in the bar – just grab a table and order at the bar.

Our hotel boasts a rich legacy that spans over three centuries, steeped in a tapestry of vibrant stories and historical charm. In the eighteenth century, The George stood as a bustling coaching inn, witnessing the passage of coaches through the archway, leading to the inn-yard beyond. Picture the lively scenes of candidates addressing the public from the balcony over the archway during election times – a tradition that added to the hotel's allure. Throughout its storied past, The George has been synonymous with the Whig faction, while The Swan, just opposite, proudly stood as a bastion of Tory principles. The intriguing political history of the locale adds an extra layer of character to your visit.

  • A lovely well organised 60th birthday celebration for me in the Garrick suite. Food was excellent, staff were attentive and helpful and polite. Manager of the function was great, nothing too much trouble. Retired to the bar later with everyone and had a great night there. Room was excellent, breakfast was excellent. Well done The George.

  • I hosted a baby shower for my friend who lives in Lichfield at The George in January- coming up from London for the day. Even though I forgot to confirm and they were fully booked – they couldn't do enough to to accommodate us and cater to my requirements at extremely short notice. Service was brilliant and so friendly. Excellent Afternoon Tea. Would definitely recommend and will probably stay here when I come up to see the new arrival! Particular standouts were Jacquie and Kirsty – you went out of your way and helped make a wonderful afternoon. Thank you The George

  • Me and a party of 12 held a reunion here recently and were treated superbly. The hotel is traditional with the emphasis on looking after its visitors. The bedrooms were clean, with everything you could need. The meals were excellent as was the service from reception to waitresses. I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel.   • I was one of a party booked for a Military Reunion, I had a 3 day stay and it was soon apparent that two members of staff were giving excellent service which I would class as way above normal. They were Carole and Heather, two very nice, polite, friendly and hardworking ladies. Carole and Heather were outstanding at all times during our stay and these sentiments are echoed by other members of the Parachute Squadron.
