Civil marriage ceremonies can be performed in one of two delightful licensed rooms at The George so you can spend your whole day at the hotel and no one needs to be concerned about getting from the church or Registration Office to the Reception.
The Garrick Suite accommodates up to 90 guests, while The Charter Room accommodates a maximum of 25 for the ceremony. For your civil ceremony the hotel provides the hire of a licensed room for the ceremony plus the hire of a smaller room for the private interview prior to your marriage.

The first step in arranging a civil marriage or partnership at The George is to provisionally reserve a date and time for your ceremony with us. You should then contact Lichfield Registration Office in order to make a booking for the Registrar to attend:

Any couple can choose between a traditional marriage and a civil partnership. A civil partnership gives a couple similar legal rights to a married couple.
People decide to enter into a civil partnership instead of getting married for various reasons. Some people have already been married and don’t wish to marry again. This can be for personal or religious reasons. Some people object to marriage for patriarchal reasons. Whereas marriages are based around vows, couples in a civil partnership need to sign a civil partnership document.
At The George Hotel, we have two elegant licensed rooms that can be used for your civil ceremony. As you can hold both your ceremony and reception at our hotel, you don’t need to worry about getting from one venue to another. Everything can be carried out right here.

We can also give you access to a smaller room for the private interview that will take place before your ceremony. Our Garrick Suite is the ideal facility for your celebrations, offering air conditioning, large picture windows, open fires and chandeliers. This suite has the capacity for up to 90 guests.
